Education program proposal forms

Museum of Nature and Science

Internal form

Fall 2021

Problem

When people want to propose a new educational program for the  museum system, they must use the program proposal form. This form is disliked by staff. The staff perceives these forms as a way to say “no” to any new ideas rather than an opportunity to discuss new projects and identify partners, roadblocks, or other concerns.

Method

Study Design: unstructured interview

Participants: 3-4 museum staff members

Task: participants filled out the education proposal form as if they are suggesting a program and providing feedback by section

Results

Theme 1: Form Too Long

Theme 2: Reformatting Needed

Theme 3: Specific Elements to Change

solution

After going through the results we incorporated the changes to the internal form based on museum feedback.

Final product

Conclusion

In conclusion, we created an internal form. We asked staff members for their feedback, incorporated their feedback into this form, and ultimately our goal is to make the best version of this form so that the staff members can propose different projects to the museum.

External form

Fall 2021

Problem

The current program proposal form is only for internal staff, not community members.

Method

Study Design: Semi-structured interview

Participants: 1 museum staff member

Task: participant went through the external form and answered interview questions

Results

Theme 1: External form must differ in length and scope to other version of the form

Theme 2: Elements of external form depends on the best method of circulation

Theme 3: Change specific elements

solution

After going through the results we incorporated the changes to the external form based on museum feedback.

Final product

Conclusion

In conclusion, we created an external form. We asked staff members for their feedback, incorporated their feedback into this form, and ultimately our goal is to make the best version of this form so community members can propose different projects to the museum. We hope that the community members find these forms helpful and are able to propose many projects in the future.
